The difference between a 10-day audit and a 10-week audit is preparation. Auditors ask for the same core documents every year — having them ready before fieldwork starts changes the entire engagement.
The essentials: trial balance and general ledger for the full year, all bank statements with reconciliations, sales and purchase registers, fixed-asset register with depreciation workings, statutory dues challans, and the previous year's signed financials.
Also prepare the supporting schedules auditors always request: debtor and creditor ageing, related-party transactions, loans and advances, contingent liabilities, and inventory records with count sheets.
Send the first tranche before the audit team arrives. An auditor who starts with complete documents finishes fast — and a fast audit costs less and disrupts less.
